Core-stable networks with widespread externalities

چکیده
We introduce a core-based stability concept for networks with widespread externalities. The model is a generalisation of the recursive core for partition function form games. We present a simple example of a favour network and show that the core is nonempty when players must pay transfers to intermediaries. This simple setting also models economic situations such as airline networks. Subject classification: C71, C72

On f-Core Equivalence with General Widespread Externalities
This paper partially extends the f -core equivalence theorem of Hammond, Kaneko and Wooders (1989) for continuum economies with widespread externalities — i.e., those over which each individual has negligible control. Externalities need not result directly from trading activities. Neither free disposal of divisible goods nor monotone preferences are assumed. Instead, a slightly strengthened for...
متن کاملExternalities and the Nucleolus∗
In most economic applications, externalities prevail: the worth of a coalition depends on how the other players are organized. We show that there is a unique natural way of extending the nucleolus from (coalitional) games without externalities to games with externalities. This is in contrast to the Shapley value and the core for which many different extensions have been proposed.
متن کاملThe Core of a Partition Function Game
We consider partition function games and introduce new definitions of the core that include the effects of externalities. We assume that all players behave rationally and that all stable outcomes arising are consistent with the appropriate generalised concept of the core. The result is a recursive definition of the core where residual subgames are considered as games with fewer players and with...
متن کاملRights, Free Exchange, and Widespread Externalities
Sen’s libertarian paradox is ascribed to the inevitable conflict between the Pareto criterion and individuals’ rights to create negative externalities. Finite coalitions can effect exchanges of rights through Coaseian bargains in order to resolve inefficiencies due to local externalities. With a continuum of agents, however, finite coalitions are powerless to affect widespread externalities, ex...
متن کاملCore-stable rings in auctions with independent private values
We propose a semi-cooperative game theoretic approach to check whether a given coalition is stable in a Bayesian game with independent private values. The ex ante expected utilities of coalitions, at an incentive compatible (noncooperative) coalitional equilibrium, describe a (cooperative) partition form game. A coalition is core-stable if the core of a suitable characteristic function, derived...
